Workshop: Caring for Young People with Difficult Behaviours
Young people with difficult behaviours can really stretch the patience and resources of carers, parents and those who provide services for them.
- Examples of challenging behaviours that young people may have.
- The particular needs of young people with challenging behaviours
- Some tools for dealing with challenging behaviours: negotiation, problem solving, positive boundary and limit setting.
- Specific case examples of young people who run away - causes, warning signs and intervention considerations.
- Specific case examples of young people who have been involved in or witnessed family violence - the ripple effects and intervention considerations.
- Creating a personalised learning profile for young people.
- Helping young people work through their anger.
- Self care for adults who live, work or care for young people with challenging behaviours.
This workshop will involve small and large group discussion. Participants are also encouraged to share their ideas and experiences. Handouts will be provided and a Certificate of Attendance will be given to all those completing the workshop. Parents, Caregivers, Youth Workers and Volunteers, Sports Coaches, Truancy Officers, Youth Mental Health Workers, Social Service Providers, Family Support Workers, Youth Mentors, Maori Wardens and anyone involved in supporting young people. Please note this workshop is not suitable for those seeking classroom management techniques. : 9.00am - 4.00pm Lunch is generally at 12.30pm - 1.30pm

CPS reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to minimum registrations. Refunds will be given to participants of workshops cancelled by CPS.
Registrations cancelled by participants after registration will incur an administration fee of $50.00. No refunds will be applicable on or after workshop start date.
