Preventing harm to children through education and awareness

For most children, New Zealand is a wonderful place to grow up in. Some are not so lucky. Childhood trauma, abuse, and neglect are a fact of life (and sometimes death) for too many of our young people.

How can I Tell?                                        Free of Charge* - donations appreciated

The book, How Can I Tell? provides basic information on how to recognise abuse or potential abuse.  By educating ourselves on what to look for and what to do when we suspect abuse is occurring we can take the necessary and correct steps to help stop the hurt of children.  Promoting the well being of children must become society's highest priority.  By protecting children and preventing long-term traumatic effects, not only do we improve the quality of life for children but we also reduce the financial costs to society and make a positive investment in the future of our country.

Choosing safe people to work with children is not easy.  When children and young people are in the care of adults, they deserve to be safe.  Parents and caregivers must know that the people looking after their children will not bully or abuse them - physically, sexually or emotionally.  "Safe Not Sorry" is a practical, easy to use handbook to help keep child abusers out of organisations responsible for children.

"Safe Not Sorry" is an essential guide for every school, early childhood centre, sporting or cultural group, after school group, youth group, church group...and every other organisation where adults are involved with children and young people.  This 40 page book, complete with sample application forms, checking forms and more has been endorsed by the Office of the Commissioner for Children, Parentline and child advocates throughout New Zealand.  It is an essential tool for all those involved with children.
